In the first quarter of 2025, the added value of China's above-scale light industry increased by 7.3% year-on-year, with operating income reaching 5.4 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%. Among the 90 major light industry products tracked by the National Bureau of Statistics, 53 saw output growth. The added value of the moped, battery, toy, and household appliance manufacturing industries maintained double-digit growth.
Driven by policies to expand domestic demand and promote consumption, retail sales of 11 categories of light industrial goods exceeded 2.1 trillion yuan in the first quarter, up 9.7% year-on-year. Among them, furniture retail sales rose 18.1% due to the consumer goods trade-in policy, 14.5 percentage points faster than the whole of last year; household appliances and audio-visual equipment retail sales increased 19.3%, maintaining double-digit growth for seven consecutive months.
Foreign trade showed resilience, with 10 out of 21 major industries seeing growth in export value. Household appliances, daily chemical products, and light industry machinery all achieved double-digit growth.
